Please note: There is no shortlist for the MEP Lifetime Achievement Award, and the winner of this award will be announced on the night at the gala dinner.

European Values Champion of the Year

Lina Galvez MEP photo

Lina Gálvez MEP (S&D, Spain)

Lina Gálvez is Chair of the Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) Committee and Vice-Chair of the Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA). She also serves on the Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) and International Trade (INTA) Committees. Active in transatlantic and Asia-Pacific diplomacy, she is a member of the Delegations for Relations with the United States and the Korean Peninsula. MEP Gálvez also serves as Vice-Chair of the Sky and Space Intergroup and is Ambassador for Women Political Leaders in the Parliament.

Iratxe García Pérez MEP (S&D, Spain)

Iratxe García Pérez has led the S&D Group since 2019, having been re-elected unopposed following last June’s elections. She began her career in local politics and the Spanish Parliament, before being elected as an MEP in 2004. She has focused on a range of issues, most notably gender equality, culminating in her 2014 election as Chair of FEMM Committee. That year, she was also named Head of the PSOE delegation in the S&D Group, until her election as Group Leader.

Evin Incir MEP (S&D, Sweden)

Evin Incir is a prominent advocate for human rights, rule of law, and equality. She played a key role in the adoption of the 2024 directive on combating violence against women and now champions a European Consent Law. A leading voice in the Anti-Racism and LGBTQ+ Intergroups, she also defends media freedom and journalist protection. Serving on the LIBE and AFET committees since 2019, she has received the Diversity & Inclusion Award (2022) and Promoting European Values Award (2023) for her impact.

Miriam Lexmann MEP (EPP, Slovakia)

Miriam Lexmann is a Quaestor of the European Parliament, active in the AFET, INTA, and EMPL Committees. She co-chairs the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) and was among five MEPs sanctioned by Beijing in 2021 for standing up against human rights violations. A former Slovak diplomat, she previously worked in civil society and international institutions promoting freedom and democracy. Her career reflects a deep commitment to global justice and European democratic values.

Alex Agius Saliba MEP (S&D, Malta)

Alex Agius Saliba is serving his second term as MEP and is Vice-President of the S&D Group, leading on Communication, Campaigns, and the Digital Agenda. As Chair of the S&D Digital Working Group, he has played a key role in shaping landmark legislation such as the DSA, DMA, and AI Act. His advocacy for digital sovereignty and values-based innovation positions him at the forefront of the EU’s digital transformation and strategic independence.

Maria Walsh MEP (EPP, Ireland)

Maria Walsh is serving her second term in the European Parliament. Her priorities include agriculture, regional development, women’s rights, and mental health. She is a strong and impactful voice for farmers, for women and young girls, and crucially for all those who need mental health support and services. MEP Walsh has been a leading light in putting mental health on the political agenda in Brussels and is a proud advocate for the LGBTQI community and other minority groups, in particular in light of regressive rollbacks and challenges.

Sophie Wilmès MEP (Renew, Belgium)

Sophie Wilmès is Vice-President of the European Parliament, where she sits on the LIBE and EUDS Committees. She also serves as First Vice-Chair of the Delegation for Relations with the US, and is a substitute member of the ITRE Committee. Before joining the European Parliament, MEP Wilmès notably served as Minister for the Budget (2015-2019), became Belgium’s first woman Prime Minister (2019-2020) and then Minister for Foreign Affairs (2020-2022). She remains actively involved locally as First Alderwoman of Rhode-Saint-Genèse.

Kira Marie Peter-Hansen MEP (Greens/EFA, Denmark)

Kira Marie Peter-Hansen is the youngest MEP in EU history, after being elected at 21, and a leading youth voice in Brussels. Now serving her second term and Vice-President of the Greens/EFA Group, she champions youth engagement, gender equality, and sustainable economic policy. As ECON Coordinator, she defends climate reporting standards in the Omnibus file. Through school talks and social media, MEP Peter-Hansen makes EU politics more accessible, inspiring young people to get involved and shape Europe’s future.

Lena Schilling MEP (Greens/EFA, Austria)

Lena Schilling, elected in 2024 at age 23, is the youngest Austrian MEP and a passionate youth champion. A founder of the Austrian Youth Council and Fridays for Future organiser, she brings the voice of young climate activists to the heart of EU policymaking. In Parliament, she fights for environmental justice and fair transport systems. MEP Shilling continues to mobilise and inspire youth across Europe to stand up for a greener, more just future.

Nicolae Ștefănuță MEP (Greens/EFA, Romania)

Nicolae Ștefănuță, Vice-President of the European Parliament, ran an independent, youth-led campaign in 2024, supported by his “Equality Generation” of young volunteers. A strong advocate for youth rights, he champions climate action, affordable housing, mental health, and Erasmus+. A member of the Greens/EFA Group, he continues to push for a greener, fairer Europe—working to make young people’s voices central to the EU’s future.

Zala Tomašič MEP (EPP, Slovenia)

Zala Tomašič made history in 2024 as Slovenia’s youngest-ever MEP. A passionate advocate for youth empowerment, she works on issues from digital safety to boosting EU competitiveness. Dedicated to staying connected with her generation, she regularly visits schools and youth groups, encouraging civic engagement and political participation. Her mission: to ensure Europe listens to and reflects the voices of its young citizens.

This award will go to the MEP who has managed to impress in the hemicycle with their ability to articulate their views on an issue with passion, intellect and emotion.

Assita Kanko MEP (ECR, Belgium)

Assita Kanko is Vice-President of the ECR and LIBE Coordinator. Re-elected in 2024, she focuses on security, justice, civil liberties, and women’s rights. She chairs the MEP Police Group and works on cybercrime, sexual violence, and organised crime. A survivor of FGM and lifelong advocate for women, she was named a “Top 20 Rising Star in European Politics” in 2023. She is also an author, columnist, and defender of Enlightenment values.

During the plenary debate for the Election of the Commission President, MEP Kanko highlights the challenge and scrutiny female politicians face compared to their male counterparts, underlining the solidarity she feels with important female figureheads Meloni and Von der Leyen. Yet, her speech is also a call to action. Defence, nuclear, the Middle East, women’s rights, migration, safeguarding for businesses and fighting religious discrimination – she demands that if elected, Von der Leyen 2.0 must do more.

Vicent Marzà Ibáñez MEP (Greens/EFA, Spain)

Vicent Marzà Ibáñez has been the Minister of Education, Culture and Sport of the Valencian Community from 2015 to 2022 and Deputy spokesperson of his group until 2024. During his term in government, he managed to increase the budget by 25%. As a deputy, he has promoted laws on cooperative housing, on territorial equity and industrial innovation. He is currently Vice-President at HOUS committee and working in INTA and TRAN. After the floods suffered in València, he works tirelessly to repair the victims and rebuild the affected areas. He is passionate about cycling and culture.

In a heartfelt speech after the Valencia floods, MEP Marzà Ibáñez condemned local negligence that led to preventable deaths. He urged the EU to step up in solidarity with the region, calling for immediate support and recognition of climate-related risks as humanitarian emergencies.

Eleonora Meleti MEP photo

Eleonora Meleti MEP (EPP, Greece)

Eleonora Meleti, a first-term MEP and former journalist, is the EPP coordinator for the FEMM Committee and author of two bestselling books. She is a leading advocate for gender equality and women’s empowerment in the European Parliament. As Chair of the Intergroup on the Future of Education and Skills for a Competitive Europe, and member of the CULT and EMPL Committees, she focuses on education, media, and social affairs, bringing an inclusive and forward-thinking perspective to her work.

MEP Meleti delivered a powerful, personal speech against a proposed Iraqi law allowing child marriage. Highlighting her own daughter’s innocence, she exposed the harsh reality faced by young girls. Her emotional plea, calling it paedophilia, went viral, resonating widely and turning policy debate into a call for urgent global action.

Krzysztof Smiszek MEP photo

Krzysztof Śmiszek MEP (S&D, Poland)

Krzysztof Jan Śmiszek is a Polish MEP, lawyer, politician, academic teacher, human rights and minority rights activist, and Doctor of Law. He is a co-founder and former chairman of the Polish Society of Anti-Discrimination Law, a member of the Polish Sejm during the 9th and 10th terms (2019–2024), Vice-Chairman of the New Left party, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice from 2023 to 2024.

In his passionate speech at European Parliament in Strasbourg in February 2025, MEP Śmiszek highlights real-life struggles of Polish, Slovak, and Romanian same-sex couples whose marriages and parenthood go unrecognized across EU borders. He denounces the lack of uniformity in free movement and failure to uphold the EU non-discrimination principle.

Veronika Cifrová Ostrihoňová MEP

Veronika Cifrová Ostrihoňová MEP (Renew, Slovakia)

Veronika Cifrová Ostrihoňová champions key issues such as media freedom, digital safety, children’s well-being, and mental health, priorities shaped by her experiences as a journalist. A first-term MEP elected in 2024, she serves on the LIBE and FEMM committees. She uses her social media platforms, which have a combined following of hundreds of thousands, to connect with and inspire mostly women and young people to become politically engaged and to bring EU politics closer to their everyday lives through clear and accessible communication.

Barry Cowen MEP (Renew, Ireland)

Barry Cowen began his political career in local government before serving in the Irish Dáil from 2011, including as Minister for Agriculture in 2020. Elected to the European Parliament in 2024, he now sits on the Agriculture and International Trade Committees. A strong advocate for rural communities, MEP Cowen keeps his 10,000+ followers on X informed about his legislative work and priorities in Brussels, ensuring a direct connection between his constituents and EU policymaking.

Awarded to a newly-elected MEP who has already made a mark in the hemicycle or gained a reputation in committee. Who is the one to watch from the 2024 intake?

Daniel Attard MEP (S&D, Malta)

Daniel Attard, a grassroots socialist from Malta, rose from a working-class family to become Mayor at just 20. Now serving as a MEP, he focuses on shaping EU policy in transport and tourism while empowering youth. As Vice-Chair for relations with Iran, he champions human rights, having authored key resolutions against repression. MEP Attard brings an islander’s perspective to Brussels, challenging one-size-fits-all approaches and prioritising people over power.

Thomas Bajada MEP (S&D, Malta)

Thomas Bajada, was elected in 2024 after serving as Technical Attaché at Malta’s EU Permanent Representation. At 30, he is a rising voice in Brussels, championing policies that blend economic growth, social justice, and environmental sustainability, such as the Water Resilience Strategy. As Vice-Chair of the SEArica intergroup and member of the LGBTQI+ intergroup, he advocates for coastal communities and underrepresented voices. He sits on the PECH and ENVI committees and is a substitute in ECON.

Wouter Beke MEP (EPP, Belgium)

Wouter Beke leads the Belgian EPP delegation in his first mandate. He has advocated for European industries as shadow rapporteur on energy-intensive sectors and played a key role in the resolution concerning Belgian-Congolese citizen Jean-Jacques Wondo. A central focus of his work is also strengthening Europe’s resilience through a robust defence industry. Beyond his legislative duties, he is also an active artist—his artwork on Franco-German reconciliation now hangs in Parliament as a symbol of unity.

Borys Budka MEP (EPP, Poland)

Borys Budka, as Chair of the ITRE Committee has played a leading role in shaping key legislative work. He coordinated two reports, two recommendations, and one opinion—most notably on renewing scientific cooperation with Ukraine and on screening foreign investments. He also co-authored a resolution on flood preparedness and contributed to debates on topics such as U.S. export restrictions. In collaboration with MEPs and EUSPA, MEP Budka helped organise an exhibition taking place in June at the European Parliament on the everyday impact of space technologies.

Borja Giménez Larraz, a former APA with a decade of experience, now serves as EPP Vice-Coordinator in the AFCO committee and lead rapporteur on the housing report. He is a strong advocate for his constituency, Aragón, promoting its logistics potential and calling for improved trans-Pyrenean connections. His legislative work also includes the animal transport report and the EU-Mexico trade deal. He is a full member of the TRAN committee and a substitute in the INTA and HOUSE committees.

Małgorzata Gosiewska MEP (ECR, Poland)

Małgorzata Gosiewska, elected in 2024 with the ECR Group, is a committee advocate for human rights and democracy, especially in post-Soviet states. As Chair of the Delegation for relations with Belarus and ECR coordinator in DEVE, she leads on initiatives supporting political prisoners, media freedom, and Belarusian opposition. Her lifelong activism started in her school years, and her leadership inspire action and empower young democratic voices across her native country of Poland and beyond.

Michalis Hadjipantela MEP (EPP, Cyprus)

Michalis Hadjipantela, a member of ECON, SANT, FISC, BUDG, ENVI, and ITRE, brings a strong background in economics and public health, having served as Cyprus’ Minister of Health. In a short time, he has contributed to numerous legislative files, including acting as rapporteur or shadow on the upcoming MFF and Budget 2026. He has also worked on highlighting the intersection of sports and culture, demonstrating his dedication to shaping European policy and addressing key societal issues.

Céline Imart MEP (EPP, France)

Céline Imart is a French MEP elected in 2024. With strong roots in farming, she sees her mandate as a bridge between European institutions and citizens. She plays an active role in three key committees: in AGRI, she serves as rapporteur for the Common Organisation of the Markets; in INTA, she leads on the Macro-Financial Assistance files for Egypt and Jordan; and in BUDG, she has made the effective monitoring of EU funds one of her guiding priorities.

András Kulja, Vice-Chair of ENVI and surgeon by training, combines his own medical expertise with his political mandate. He has led Soil Law trilogues, strengthened toy safety rules, and tackles healthcare workforce shortages and mental health. Ciaran Mullooly MEP (Renew, Ireland)

Ciaran Mullooly, a former journalist and TV presenter, passionately advocated for the Just Transition Fund at the beginning of his mandate, drawing from his personal connection to a region impacted by decarbonisation. He also honored the legacy of Ryan Evans, a Reuters employee, supporting his family and promoting freedom of speech. As a strong advocate for disability rights, he founded Lough Ree Access For All and, now as Vice-Chair of the Housing Committee, fights for accessible housing for people with disabilities.

Cynthia Ní Mhurchú MEP

Cynthia Ní Mhurchú MEP (Renew, Ireland)

Cynthia Ní Mhurchú brings a powerful voice to the European Parliament, shaped by her career experience as a barrister and a broadcaster. A committed member of the IMCO Committee and substitute on PETI and TRAN, she champions practical, compassionate policies that protect children, uphold the social contract, and strengthen the single market. MEP Ní Mhurchú works tirelessly to ensure EU decisions improve daily life for citizens. Her collaborative, empathetic approach marks her as a standout candidate for Best Newcomer MEP.

Thomas Pellerin-Carlin MEP (S&D, France)

Thomas Pellerin-Carlin is a leading voice on energy, industry, and climate. A member of the ITRE Committee, he champions the Green Deal and renewable energy, drawing on his past roles at the Jacques Delors Institute and I4CE. He co-chairs the Investment Intergroup and Cleantech Friendship Group and serves as S&D negotiator on energy security. Actively engaging with citizens, he has hosted dozens of conferences and welcomed 250+ students to the European Parliament.

Reinis Pozņaks, a first-time MEP and civic activist, entered the European Parliament in 2024 with no political background but a strong public mandate for his support of Ukraine. As ECR coordinator in SEDE and member of IMCO, he has already made a significant mark. He founded the cross-party Eastern Frontline Group and led The Price of Weakness conference on European defence, quickly establishing himself as one of the Parliament’s most dynamic and solution-driven new voices.

Sabrina Repp MEP (S&D, Germany)

Sabrina Repp (26) is the youngest German MEP. In the Committees on Culture and Education and Regional Development, she advocates for equal opportunities regardless of origin, gender, or place of residence. Raised in a family facing financial challenges in rural Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (East Germany), she fights for social advancement through education and democratic participation. She actively stands against right-wing extremism and antisemitism. Through school tours and women’s cafés, she brings EU politics directly to local communities – committed, approachable, and with a clear stance for democracy.

Nela Riehl, as a teacher and mother of two, understands how education and culture shape who we become. Since being elected for Volt in 2024, she has focused her work in the European Parliament on youth, education, and soft diplomacy as Chair of the CULT Committee. MEP Riehl also works on fair working conditions, social resilience, and lifelong learning as a member of the EMPL Committee, because shaping the future starts with empowering people today.

Antonella Sberna has been a MEP since 2024, elected with the ECR Group, and currently serves as Vice-President. She is responsible for interreligious dialogue and relations with regions and local authorities. She sits on the REGI and HOUS committees and promotes gender equality as part of internal initiatives. Her work combines legislative engagement with a strong commitment to subsidiarity, cohesion, and the role of local institutions in EU policymaking.

Krzysztof Śmiszek is a Polish lawyer, politician, and human rights activist. A co-founder of the Polish Society of Anti-Discrimination Law, he previously served as a member of the Polish Sejm and as Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice. Elected to the European Parliament in 2024, MEP Smiszek advocates for minority rights and social justice, bringing his expertise in law and activism to his new role as MEP.

Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann MEP (Renew, Germany)

Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, as the Chair of the new fully-fledged Security and Defence Committee (SEDE), plays a leading role in shaping the EU’s new momentum to develop a genuine European Security and Defence Union. In this capacity, she will play an instrumental role in supporting EU Member States in transforming their defence using the new EU level defence instruments. MEP Strack-Zimmermann will convene the first ever meeting of SEDE with the Defence Committees of National Parliaments in the Autumn of 2025.

Anna Stürgkh MEP (Renew, Austria)

Anna Stürgkh, elected in 2024, brings fresh energy to Brussels. She plays a key role as rapporteur on electricity grids, leading Europe’s push for energy independence. Equally, she also champions consumer rights, with a particular focus on protecting children. As one of the youngest voices in the hemicycle and a young mother herself, MEP Stürgkh combines empathy with purpose. Still early in her political career, she embodies a new generation of leadership in Brussels.

Reinier Van Lanschot MEP (Greens/EFA, Netherlands)

Reinier van Lanschot is a MEP for Volt, committed to a more democratic, sustainable, and united Europe. He works on strengthening European defence, EU-reform and safeguarding democratic values as well as digital rights and relations with enlargement countries like Ukraine and Georgia. As part of the Greens/EFA group, he brings a fresh, citizen-driven perspective to EU policymaking. Before joining the European Parliament, he co-founded Volt Netherlands and co-led Volt Europa, the first pan-European political movement.

Yvan Verougstraete MEP (Renew, Belgium)

Yvan Verougstraete is Vice-President of the ITRE Committee and a member of the IMCO and ENVI Committees. A former entrepreneur in the pharmaceutical sector and founder of Medimarket, he entered politics out of concern for the future of the next generations. Driven by a desire to create, and take action, he brought his entrepreneurial mindset to the European Parliament to tackle today’s crises and shape a better, more sustainable future.

Vlad Voiculescu MEP (Renew, Romania)

Vlad Voiculescu serves as Renew coordinator in the SANT committee. Passionate about health and patient rights, he co-founded and now co-chairs the Intergroup on Cancer and Rare Diseases, launched at the start of this mandate. Through these roles, MEP Voiculescu pushes for fair access to healthcare and stronger EU support for those facing serious health conditions, goals he will work toward, through key legislative files like the pharmaceutical legislation, as well as the Critical Medicines Act.

APA of the Year

Awarded to an Accredited Parliamentary Assistant (APA) who has demonstrated a real commitment to assist politicians in making good policy. We will be not only looking for those who have worked on the biggest files, but also those who have a proven track record of facilitating discussions amongst stakeholders, who have gone the extra mile to unearth fact, figures and human stories to shape the best policy.

Attila Benedek, Office of MEP Daniel Attard (S&D, Malta)

Attila Benedek has been an APA for over 20 years, specializing in transport, tourism, mobility, and sustainability policies. He has brought the depth of his experience to support both Hungarian and Maltese MEPs, helping to maximize the impact of their legislative work. A skilled mediator, seasoned leader, and frequent speaker at global summits, he was elected to the APA Committee as Treasurer in 2019, where he has actively championed assistants’ rights. He holds a Master’s in International Relations from Corvinus University and an Executive MBA from TU Wien.

Eimear Deery APA

Éimear Deery, Office of MEP Maria Walsh (EPP, Ireland)

Éimear Deery has been an APA for over six years, contributing to AGRI, CULT, and EMPL committees. A key achievement is her work on the EU’s Anti-Trafficking Directive to better protect victims of human trafficking. Karima Delli (Greens/EFA, FR)

An environmentalist MEP first elected in 2009, MEP Karima Delli became Chairwoman of the Transport and Tourism Committee (TRAN) in 2017. MEP Delli has always expressed her support for the development of a more sustainable mobility model, with the goal of facing up to the challenges of our century: protecting the climate, public health and promoting the accessibility of mobility. For MEP Delli, the transport sector is absolutely key to fighting climate change. She was at the foundation of the Committee of Inquiry into Emission Measurements in the automotive sector (Dieselgate), where she was Vice-Chair. MEP Delli is also the TRAN Rapporteur for opinion on the impactful CO2 emission standards for cars and vans file.

Jan Huitema (RE, NL)

MEP Jan Huitema is the Parliament’s Rapporteur for what has probably been the most impactful piece of legislation in the mobility and transport sector over the past year: CO2 Emissions Reduction Targets for New Passenger Cars and Light Commercial Vehicles, part of the “Fit for 55” package. This landmark piece of legislation is designed to end sales of new CO2-emitting cars by 2035, and lower CO2 emissions by 55% from 2030, versus 2021 levels, among other provisions. MEP Huitema played a key role in negotiating the Parliament’s position on the file during the trilogues. For Huitema, an ambitious revision of CO2-standards is a crucial part of reaching EU’s climate targets, creating clarity for the car industry.

Dominique Riquet (RE, FR)

As an active member of the Transport and Tourism Committee (TRAN), MEP Dominique Riquet was the Co-Rapporteur on the Trans-European transport network (TEN-T) file along with MEP Barbara Thaler. This has been a crucial ongoing piece of legislation on Union guidelines for the development of the trans-European transport network. MEP Riquet’s contribution has been largely praised by the TRAN Committee. Since first being elected in 2009, MEP Riquet has sought to play a strong role in developing and connecting transports market in Europe, with a special focus on infrastructure investment.

Barbara Thaler (EPP, AT)

MEP Barbara Thaler was the EPP Shadow Rapporteur on the European Year of Rail and a member of the Sky & Space intergroup. An active member of the Transport and Tourism Committee (TRAN), she was the Co-Rapporteur on the Trans-European transport network (TEN-T) file along with MEP Dominique Riquet. MEP Thaler’s contribution to the file has been widely praised by her colleagues within the TRAN Committee. Current TEN-T projects range from Rail Baltica, connecting Helsinki and Warsaw, to Brenner Base Tunnel, linking Austria and Italy, or the Lisbon–Madrid high-speed rail line.

Marco Castagneto Office of MEP Moretti (S&D, IT)

Marco Castagneto has given many years of personal dedication not only to serving and supporting his MEP Alessandra Moretti, but more generally, to ensuring EU cancer policy is well advanced and scrutinised with the support of the full European Parliament. Marco played a major role in supporting the S&D group’s engagement with the creation and content of the landmark report of the European Parliament’s Special Committee on Beating Cancer (BECA). This report helped to forge consensus between political groupings on issues where divergent views might otherwise impede agreement, ensuring the report’s recommendations had strength and precision in their ask.

Èimear Deery Office of MEP Walsh (EPP, IE)

Èimear Deery joined MEP Maria Walsh’s team in July 2019. Prior to this, she worked as an Intern for MEP Marian Harkin. In the past years she has grown to be a trusted advisor, colleague and a ‘go to’ for other Parliament Offices. Èimear focuses her time on the protection of citizen’s fundamental rights and works to eradicate all inequalities for citizens; mental health, those with different abilities, the LGBTI+ community to name a few. Her work has driven the office of MEP Walsh and EPP Group to focus their effort on raising awareness of citizens mental health in Europe, as well as the most recent unblocking the Anti-Discrimination Directive, and eradicating the growing industry of human trafficking.

Pauline Frouin Office of MEP Canfin (RE, FR)

Pauline Frouin has been in charge of negotiating all Green Deal files, anticipating possible political deals across political groups and with the other EU institutions, as the Assistant of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) Chair MEP Pascal Canfin. Pauline’s work and dedication has enabled the Parliament secure ambitious deal on major climate files, supporting the EU’s leadership on climate. Despite only joining the European Parliament in 2020, she quickly managed to grasp the rules and procedures necessary to negotiate major technical files, including the reform of the European carbon market and the Carbon Border Adjustment mechanism. Pauline’s involvement contributed to the EU’s climate ambition and helped the European Parliament reach ambitious deals.

Kai Zenner Office of MEP Voss (EPP, DE)

A digital enthusiast focusing on Artificial Intelligence, data and the EU’s digital transition, Kai Zenner has not only gained a great deal of expertise in this area over the years, but is actively shaping Europe’s digital future and its legal framework together with his MEP Axel Voss. He has worked on important files such as GDPR to ePrivacy to Eurojust to Artificial Intelligence. In doing so, Kai has taken the principle of transparent communication and regular exchange with stakeholders to a new level. On his blog and on social media, he informs the public about the work on dossiers and feeds back with all interested stakeholders on progress achieved in behind closed door negotiations in a structured and open process. This leads to real added value and a qualitative improvement in legislation and strengthens public confidence in the credibility of the EU institutions. Kai is praised by his colleagues not only for his incredible knowledge of digital policy, but also for his inspiring, driven, hard working, innovative and unique professional attitude.

Patrice Audibert, APA, Office of MEP RIES (RE, FR)

Patrice Audibert has worked for MEP Frédérique Ries for more than 20 years. During this time, he has covered a broad range of topics but has specialised in policy for the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety. Patrice has drafted many reports with his MEP, including on GMO, Single Use plastics and now Packaging and Packaging waste. These are only a few examples of the many achievements he can take credit for. This has been testament to his hard work and enthusiasm, but also and most of all thanks to his patience. Being an assistant for such a long amount of time, consistently on top files, requires a very high level of expertise, social skills and resilience.

Katarzyna Biniaszczyk, APA, Office of MEP FRANKOWSKI (EPP, PL)

Kasia Biniaszczyk is a Member of the APA Committee and represents the interests of assistants in the European Parliament. By providing crucial support to assistants who in turn support MEPs, Kasia plays a vital role in increasing the Parliament’s efficiency and helping to create the best conditions for MEPs to carry out their mandates. Kasia has also worked on different dossiers in the Culture and Education Committee for nearly 15 years as an assistant to Polish MEPs. She is well liked and deeply appreciated not only by the MEPs who have worked with her in the Committee, or in the EP Sports Group, but also by political advisers, assistants and external stakeholders.

Delphine Colard, Head of Unit – Spokesperson’s Unit & Deputy Spokesperson

Delphine Colard has been working for the European Parliament for more than a decade. Her contribution to the EP strategy against disinformation is remarkable. Lately, ‘Qatar Gate’ has kept her busy day and night, during weekends and holidays where she answered countless questions from journalists, helped colleagues to communicate and provided substantial strategic feedback on the efforts to her hierarchy. Internally in the European Parliament she is tirelessly working on making sure communication is accurate, by helping colleagues in her own DG – and beyond – to get facts and angles right. With a rare 360-degree approach and a work capacity way above the average, she manages to be on top of a tremendous number of topics at the same time.

Susanne Ivarsson, Civil Servant

Susanne Ivarsson has worked in the European Parliament for 25 years. Working in the security office, she lets in hundreds and hundreds of visitors to the Parliament every day. Praised by her colleagues as highly professional and always friendly, she speaks five languages at mother tongue level and is incredibly helpful with her colleagues and all visitors to the Parliament. She may not work at the forefront of the policy making, but her impeccable work ethic and commitment to the job and to the institution is unparalleled, and incredibly valuable asset to the functioning of the Institution.

Vladimír Bilčík (EPP, SK)

As an MEP since 2019, MEP Vladimír Bilčík is a Member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), the Democracy, Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights Monitoring Group, and the PEGA Committee. MEP Bilčík is particularly active on the rule of law, the fight against disinformation, and hybrid threats. He is currently a rapporteur on the report on the ING2 Special Committee, on recommendations for reform of European Parliament’s rules on transparency, integrity, accountability and anti-corruption.

Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield (Greens/EFA, FR)

Elected in 2019, MEP Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield is the Vice-President of the Greens/EFA group. From 2019 until 2020, MEP Delbos-Corfield served as Vice-Chair of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM). In 2020, she joined the Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO) and the Special Committee on Foreign Interference in all Democratic Processes in the European Union (INGE). She is also member of the Democracy, Rule of Law & Fundamental Rights Monitoring Group (DRFMG) and the Rapporteur on situation in Hungary and the risk of breach of the values on which the Union is founded. MEP Delbos-Corfield defends a Europe of values, feminist and inclusive, and works to ensure that the action of environmentalists is useful to all, especially in countries where ecology is fragile or even absent.

Vlad Gheorghe (RE, RO)

MEP Vlad Gheorghe has been a Renew Europe MEP since November 2020, USR-PLUS Alliance candidate and a USR member since 2016. He is also a member of the Committee on Budgets (BUDG), the Petitions Committee (PETI) and the Delegation to the EU-Serbia Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee (D-RS). In February 2022, MEP Gheorghe set up the largest public group for volunteers to help Ukrainians fleeing war. The United for Ukraine Group currently has over 284,000 members and the number is constantly growing, with over 30,000 registered volunteers offering accommodation, transport or donations of goods. It is the biggest support group for Ukraine in Romania, it is also the second aid group for Ukrainians in Europe.

Evin Incir (S&D, SE)

Since taking office in 2019, MEP Evin Incir has dedicated her work as a legislator to fight for democracy, human rights and the rule of law. MEP Incir serves in the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) as well as the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET). She is an active member of the Intergroup on Children’s Rights, LGBTQI Intergroup and the Anti Racism Intergroup. Since she believes elections are the spirit of democracy, she frequently takes part in the election observation missions of the European Parliament, including heading the EP missions to Kenya (2022) and Nigeria (2023). Her background as Kurdish migrant in Sweden has formed her world view and her firm belief that solidarity must never see any borders. MEP Incir believes that the struggle for democracy, human rights and the rule of law in EU must go hand in hand with the struggle for those rights beyond EUs borders.

Irena Joveva (RE, SI)

MEP Irena Joveva has shown strong commitment to being a Youth Champion for younger generations across the EU. As a member of the Culture and Education and Environment (CULT), Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) Committees, MEP Joveva has campaigned on many issues important to the youth, including a ban of unpaid traineeships. Alongside this, she has worked on the European Solidarity Corps, is Co-Chair of the Volunteering interest group and has organised roundtables looking at the mental health of youth following the COVID-19 pandemic to name but a few initiatives. She strives to bring politics closer to the younger generations and has created a website dedicated to and for young people – Ideje, ki presegajo meje (translation: Beyond Borders Ideas) where young people can send their ideas, proposals and thoughts about the EU, the parliamentary legislation and things they want to see changed.

Victor Negrescu (S&D, RO)

Already in his second term, MEP Victor Negrescu has been a champion of future generations across Europe. Much of his hard work has focused around increasing access to quality education, youth participation and engaging the youth to reach their full potential. This has specifically focused around access to quality digital education, especially for those in communities with low accessibility to digital infrastructure. These projects allow young people to thrive in modern society. Away from the project, MEP Negrescu is an active member of the EU40, an advocate for the European Year of Youth and launched a dedicated campaign, YouthUP, to ask the European Commission to present a follow-up of the European Year of Youth.

Lídia Pereira (EPP, PT)

Along with serving as an MEP in the EPP group, MEP Lídia Pereira is the President of YEPP, the largest political youth organisation. Since the beginning of her mandate, MEP Pereira has been deeply invested in youth policy, with particular concern around the well-being of the future generations. As a member of the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee (ENVI), she has also been a spokesperson for the need to ensure generational solidarity in every step the EU takes regarding climate and environment and even ran a carbon neutral election campaign to raise awareness of climate change. In Portugal, MEP Pereira has played major roles in the Youth level of the PSD party.

Nicolae Ştefănuță (Greens/EFA, RO)

MEP Nicolae Ştefănuță has been a strong promoter for the Erasmus+ programme to help young generations across Europe to experience new cultures and learn from their European neighbours. As the general Rapporteur of the EU Budget 2023, MEP Ştefănuță negotiated with the Council to obtain one billion euro in comparison to the initial draft of the Commission more for to address the challenges the EU is facing and the expectations of our fellow citizens. This included securing an extra 120 million euros for Erasmus+, with the budget for Erasmus+ nearly doubled to around EUR 26.4 billion in the present multiannual financial framework (MFF), compared to the 2014-2020 MFF. Thanks to the work of MEP Ştefănuță, Erasmus+ grants for students were raised from a minimum of 600 euros, to 674 euros inline with inflation.
