New awards categories for 2025

The full list of awards categories for the MEP Awards 2025 can be viewed below.

Nominations for the awards will open on Tuesday, 10 December 2024, with nominations closing on Tuesday, 4 March 2025.

Details of how you can make a nomination and which categories will be open for nominations will be published later this year, along with details of how the judging process will work.

 

APA of the Year

Awarded to an Accredited Parliamentary Assistant (APA) who has demonstrated a real commitment to assist politicians in making good policy. We will be not only looking for those who have worked on the biggest files, but also those who have a proven track record of facilitating discussions amongst stakeholders, who have gone the extra mile to unearth fact, figures and human stories to shape the best policy.

Staffer of the Year

This Award seeks to recognise those who work behind the scenes powering Parliament. From the Communications team, Finance, Translation, Infrastructure and Logistics to the Security and Safety teams. Given to a member of staff who has gone above and beyond in their duties.

European Values Champion of the Year

For contributions to standing up for and/or promoting European values (as defined in the Lisbon Treaty) within Europe and on the global stage, strengthening human rights, justice, and the rule of law.

Youth Champion of the Year

For contributions to furthering young people’s opportunities such as jobs, internships, education, housing etc. Open to MEPs of any age who have championed youth issues. 

Speech of the Year

This award will go to the MEP who has managed to impress in the hemicycle with their ability to articulate their views on an issue with passion, intellect and emotion. 

Best Use of Social Media

This award will go the MEP who who has used X, Threads, TikTok or any other social media platform to best effect to be clever or funny, to inform or even to shut down critics. The judges will be looking for eloquence, dignity, humour, and grace, and all in the best possible taste.

 

MEP Lifetime Achievement

Awarded to someone who had dedicated their life to European politics and has managed to cut across party political boundaries to demonstrate a commitment to public service, diplomacy, and the democratic process.

Best Newcomer

Awarded to a newly-elected MEP who has already made a mark in the hemicycle or gained a reputation in committee. Who is the one to watch from the 2024 intake?
